Season

Spring (fig. 1) [ID: A painting of red, orange, and white wildflowers

Spring

I waited for you on the first breaking dawn of spring.

I held in my warm breath for fifteen rooster calls

When I realized you would not come

So weird how just two lifetimes ago

We just seeded

All the flowers we liked

In our garden.

Petunias and begonias and pansies and daffodils, your favorite

You told me how its yellow (watch)faces

Perked up towards the briskly shuffling bands of clouds

And its petals welcoming the pale sun

Made you happy

How can you bear?

To leave me alone

Seeing them sprout.

Summer

Fireflies partition space and time,

Threading the borders between this world

And the next

As they zigzag the thick air

With their luminescent trails

But we don’t really need to,

Not when your heart is already far from mine.

It walked away

In the misty meadow.

When the sky was

Gently purpled,

The clouds ushering in the next moment in hushed voices

And the stars twinkled their crying eyes

Summer nights

When people burn firewood,

I burn myself

Waiting for you.

Autumn

The autumn without you

To me,

Is like a falling leaf.

 The autumn without me

To you,

Fruits ripen

Grains harvest.

Winter Path (fig. 4) [ID: A snowy walking trail.]

Winter

Come back,

I am begging you.

Do you know that after you left

I became the last grainstack,

Abandoned by farmers in the field.

After snow

I swallow and spit white in the morning,

Looking in the distance

The mountains you surmounted for your departure.

I sit until the sun sets.
