Nobel Prize awarded to three scientists for work in click chemistry, which links molecules quickly

This article by the Washington post was published following the announcement of the 2022 Nobel Prize winners in Physiology and Medicine, Chemistry, and Physics this past Monday morning. The chemistry awardees conducted click chemistry, where molecules can be mapped and pieced together efficiently without disturbing metabolic processes. Click chemistry has paramount implications for drug development and delivery, creating “molecular libraries” for screening of molecules that may potentially have chemotherapeutic properties. Their concept can also enter the realm of industry, as click chemistry is projected to improve the types of plastics and synthetic materials we can manufacture in factories. The scientists hail from Scripps facilities in La Jolla, Stanford University, and University of Copenhagen and have been refining click chemistry in collaboration at their respective institutions for over 20 years.  The article tracks the emotions of the scientists in response to their historic win!
