Planned Parenthood to launch its first mobile abortion clinic post-Ro

This article by the Washington post was published in the wake of the overturning of the Roe v Wade precedent by the United States Supreme Court this past summer. The author writes in an expository tone, yet seems to favor the fight for abortion rights nationwide despite the judicial challenges, empathizing with the many legislative barriers facing Planned Parenthood in America. This narrative features a mobile abortion clinic sponsored by Planned Parenthood based in the state of Illinois. Due to this six-week ban imposed by many states following this historic ruling, there has been a surge in demand in clinics in states without restrictions, such asI Illinois, dramatically increasing wait times for those in need. Thus, mobile clinics were established to meet those in need, rather than have potential patients travel across state borders on their own in the South and Midwest. Other strategies such as mailed abortion providers and telehealth visits have been strategies employed for a post Roe v Wade world. These mobile clinics are RVs meant to mimic the experience of a stationary Planned Parenthood, expected to not only offer abortions but other services related to their mission such as family planning, and provision of contraceptives. This will address the need unfulfilled by telehealth and answer questions of accessibility. A major barrier to this plan is the potential legislation that might punish private organizations for “”aiding and abetting’ the state’s abortion ban” even outside of state borders where its still legal.
