Thương Trần (he/him) is the Politics column editor for The Global Horizon (TGH). He graduated from Agnes Scott College with a B.A. in political science and a minor in philosophy, where he also worked at their nationally renowned Center for Writing and Speaking (CWS). There, he served as a TA for first-year English seminars, hosted professional communication workshops, tutored students on written and oral assignments, and facilitated their long term academic development. Besides dedicating his spare time with TGH, Thương is a full-time instructor for Writing Master where he specializes in argumentative and creative writing. He loves to bring people’s ideas to life on the blank page and help others embody confidence in their writing. He also strongly believes that exposing young audiences to international news is incredibly important to developing their worldviews and hopes to embody these values in TGH.
Leslie Xiong (she/her) is the senior editor for the Global Horizon. She graduated from Smith College with a B.A in psychology and economics, where she conducted independent research projects that included social psychology and labor economics. Prior to Writing Master, Leslie worked as a research assistant in the consulting industry specializing in healthcare, in which she contributed to comprehensive assessment of drugs and medical devices. She then became a banker in the silicon valley working closely with entrepreneurs. Currently at Writing Master, Leslie is a full-time academic writing instructor specializing in psychology and economics. She is well experienced in academic projects and writing contests. Leslie is passionate in helping students to find their academic interests and harness excellent writing. Leslie believes that for students, reading news not only sharpens their academic writing skills, but it also helps them to establish expertise on certain subjects. Alex Chen (he/him) is the staff writer lead and student mentor for The Global Horizon. He is currently a senior pursuing a B.A in Classical Civilization at Cornell University, and is planning to pursue a M.S in Education and a J.D law degree in the future. At Cornell, Alex is a member of the Classics Society and the Ultimate Frisbee team. Aside from his work with TGH, he facilitates writing workshops to inspire younger students to search for their own individuality and stay true to themselves. He believes TGH is a platform that can inspire young audiences to be aware of contemporary issues and develop critical thinking skills when reading secondary sources.
Chidera Ejikeme (she/her) is a staff writer for the Science and Technology section for The Global Horizon. She is currently a senior pursuing a B.A. in History and Science a secondary in Molecular and Cellular Biology on the pre-Med track at Harvard University; she hopes to pursue an M.D./PhD. In the future. At Harvard, Chidera is a peer counselor for Indigo Peer Counseling and the Co-Chair of The Harvard Foundation for Intercultural Relations’ Student Advisory Committee. Aside from her work with TGH, she plans events catered to improving the mental health of marginalized students on campus, and publishing research focused on highlighting inequalities in the healthcare system. She believes that TGH is a harbinger of scientific research and innovation in an ever changing world.
Min Nguyen (she/her) is staff writer for the Politics section at The Global Horizon. With a B.A in Political Science Pre-law and Sociology at the University of Central Florida, Min plans to pursue a PhD/M.A in Human Factors and Cognitive Psychology. In addition to working with The Global Horizon, Min is also involved in community organizing and facilitating workshops for students and individuals who are interested in learning through an anti-imperialist and disability justice framework. Min believes that TGH is an important platform to help advocate for marginalized groups and bring important issues to light. As Diogenes, a Greek philosopher, once said, "The foundation of every state is the education of its youth".
Tijesunimi Borode (she/her) is a staff writer for The Global Horizon. She is currently a junior attending Harvard College studying neuroscience and Global Health and Health Policy. In addition to this, she is wrapping up her language citation in Yoruba, her native language. At Harvard, Tijesunimi is the current president of the Nigerian Students Association and a senior staffer for the Harvard Model Congress. She loves reading and watching different movies and tv shows in her free time. For Tijesunimi, TGH serves as a platform for young people to engage with recent news via easily accessible language.
Muriel Dol (she/her) is a staff writer for The Global Horizon. She is currently a junior pursuing a B.A. in History of Science at Harvard College. After completing her undergraduate education, she intends to go into public policy or enroll in a J.D. program. At Harvard, Muriel is on the board for the Association of Black Harvard Women, Harvard Undergraduate Black Health Advocates, and Harvard University Sports Lab. She is proud to help TGH disseminate important news and make these relevant stories digestible for all.
The Global Horizon is an interdisciplinary publishing platform that provides teens nowadays exposure to a blend of global news acquired from reputable journalistic resources, as well as offering teens an opportunity to raise their own voices and vision through their written works.
